Background Information: It is a well known fact that the United States, and the world as a whole depends on oil, natural gas, and coal for our main source of energy. All three of these resources fall under the category of fossil fuels. Although they are relatively cheap and easy to extract from our environment, they have been taking a toll on our planet. Fossil fuels release greenhouse gases into the ozone, which pollutes our air and damages the ozone layer. We are also running out of these resources because they are nonrenewable, meaning we are using them faster than nature can replace it. Right now the human race is trying desperately to find another energy resource that will sustain our life, as we know it. Not only will we soon be out of fossil fuels that supply us with about 70% of our energy, but we are ruining our planet for future generations. There are many options out there, but what will we choose that can supply us with enough power, not pollute the environment, and that we can reuse without running out?
Objective: Your goal is to research alternative energy resources, choose one that best fits out planet’s needs, and create a multimedia presentation on your choice following the rubric provided.
Alternative Energy Choices:
- Hydroelectric - Wind - Geothermal - Nuclear - Solar
Multimedia Presentation Choices:
- Power Point - Weebly Website - Pamphlet - Poster
Scoring Rubric: All Presentations MUST include the following:
o Research Fossil Fuels. Discuss at least three advantages and three disadvantages of using this resource. (10pts)
o Pick three alternative energy resources from the list above. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using these alternative energy resources. (10pts)
o Choose one alternative energy resource and argue why this choice is best suited to replace fossil fuels and improve our planets needs. (10pts)
o 5 Graphics and or Pictures to enhance presentation (At least one must be a graph) (10pts)
o Remember CUPS (Capitalization, Usage, Punctuation, Spelling) (10pts)
